How to stop wasting energy and save money
Texas A&M University, in a 2002 study, estimated that the US wastes 78 billion dollars per
year in worker time and gasoline because of snarled traffic. The US Environmental Protection Agency
has estimated that 90% of the air pollution in San Diego, CA is due to automobile emissions.
The decision to waste this energy is made by government officials and company
management by the manner in which they structure policy to utilize the work force.
In order to offer leaders an alternative to expending fossil fuel in highway commuting and congestion,
MDS has shared its work methods and success with people around the world. Since 1996, MDS personnel
have volunteered their time to meet with the government leaders of industrialized and developing
nations. During 2002, MDS personnel met with more than fifty business and government leaders
from the United States as well as Asia and Europe.
MDS's business model is a specialized form of technology sourcing that utilizes Telework.
Projects are completed by a Digital Work Force and transferred between the customer
and MDS via the Internet. MDS, a California corporation, is structured as a virtual
service company. This business model allows MDS employees to work and live at home.
Our work structure provides the customer with a lower project overhead cost.
Utilizing Digital Work service provider helps to reduce highway congestion and energy waste. A slight
reduction in the number of vehicles on the road during rush hours can have dramatic results
in commute time for those who cannot Telework. During rush hours, San Diego, California is
one of the most traffic congested cities in the United States. During the late 1990's,
Caltrans estimated that a reduction in number of just 5% of the vehicles on the highways
during rush hours would totally eliminate snarled traffic. It has been estimated that over 40%
of San Diego workers could Telework.
Utilizing a Digital Work Force helps to reduce overall business energy consumption, reduces highway
congestion, improves local air quality, and improves employee productivity because employee
effort is not wasted in commuting. MDS Case Studies show how effective MDS has been in reducing
energy consumption. Studies conducted by other organizations have reported productivity
improvement of up to 40%. Studies have also demonstrated that employee turnover was greatly
reduced. We believe this is due to lower personal stress.
MDS has successfully provided Digital Work services to customers for fifteen years.
We continue to be grateful to our customers, to business, education, and government leaders in
San Diego, California and throughout the United States and around the world who believe
in the Virtual Digital Work business concept. They have supported, encouraged, and allowed us to prove its
merits. Without their assistance our success would not have been possible.
